Your Guide to Palm Beach at Moody Gardens

May 8, 2026

Discover Galveston's only white sand beach with a 650-foot lazy river, wave pool, tower slides, and cabanas at Palm Beach at Moody Gardens. Plan your visit.

Palm Beach at Moody Gardens is Galveston's only private white sand beach, a tropical-style beach destination on Galveston Island that pairs imported Florida sand with a 650-foot lazy river, a wave pool, two 18-foot tower slides, an interactive splash pad, and shaded cabanas.

What Is Palm Beach at Moody Gardens?

Palm Beach is a seasonal beach attraction at Moody Gardens featuring Galveston's only private white sand beach, a 650-foot lazy river, a wave pool, two 18-foot-tall tower slides, an interactive splash pad with dump buckets, spray arches, and fountains, and much more. It opened in 1988 as the first Moody Gardens attraction and has since expanded into a full beach-and-water destination.

Galveston's Only Private White Sand Beach

Most of what makes Palm Beach unique isn't just the wave pool, lazy river or towering slides, it's the sand.

Imported from Florida's coastal beaches, the soft white sand wraps around a freshwater lagoon and gives Palm Beach a tropical feel you won't find anywhere else on Galveston Island. Free beach chairs and large umbrellas are available throughout the property, so you can stake out a shaded spot, kick your shoes off, and settle in for the day. For families with mixed ages or anyone who'd rather read a book than queue for a slide, this is the heart of Palm Beach.

The 650-Foot Lazy River

The lazy river is the spine of the Galveston waterpark side of Palm Beach.

At 650 feet, it's long enough to feel like an actual journey rather than a quick loop, and the current is gentle enough that younger guests can enjoy it too. Tubes are provided. Plan to spend at least one slow lap here just taking in the palm trees, beach views, and the occasional zip-line rider passing overhead.

The Wave Pool

Few things turn a quiet pool day into a chorus of squeals faster than the wave pool kicking on.

The wave pool runs in cycles, waves on for a stretch, calm water in between, and stays shallow enough at the entry that toddlers can splash near the edge while older swimmers head for the deeper section. Lifeguards are posted throughout, and the wave pool is one of the most-watched spots in the park. It's also one of the most photographed: the palms, the colorful slides, and the rolling waves give it a true beach-resort feel.

Two 18-Foot Tower Slides

For thrill-seekers, Palm Beach offers two 18-foot-tall tower slides.

They're the tallest water rides at the attraction, with a quick climb and a fast ride down, enough of a stomach-drop to satisfy older kids and adults without being intimidating to first-timers. Height requirements apply, so check before queueing if you're visiting with smaller children.

The Splash Pad

For younger visitors, Palm Beach has a dedicated play area and an interactive splash pad.

The splash pad features automated dump buckets, spray arches, and fountains that turn on and off in unpredictable bursts, the kind of low-stakes chaos that toddlers and early elementary kids love. Zero-depth water and shallow play features mean parents can stay close, sit in the shade nearby, and relax.

Cabana and Lounge Rentals

If you want a step up from the free chairs, Palm Beach offers four rental options to upgrade your day:

  • Beach Cabana: A private, fully shaded cabana, great for families and groups who want their own dedicated home base for the day.
  • Boardwalk Canopy: A shaded canopy along the boardwalk, ideal for guests who want sun protection and a comfortable spot near the action.
  • Wave Canopy: A shaded canopy positioned right by the wave pool, perfect for families who want a front-row seat to the splashing.
  • Bamboo Lounge: A relaxed bayside upgrade with bamboo-style lounge seating, great for couples or smaller groups.

Rental prices vary by day of the week, and admission tickets into Palm Beach are purchased separately from the rental.

The Zip Line Over Palm Beach

One of the most underrated views at Moody Gardens is the one from the zip line.

The Moody Gardens Zip Line launches from the top of the Sky Trail Ropes Course tower and spans 500 feet directly over Palm Beach, meaning you'll soar above the lazy river, the wave pool, and the white sand below. The five-tier Sky Trail Ropes Course is one of the tallest steel ropes courses on the Gulf Coast, and you can ride the zip line as a standalone thrill or pair it with the ropes course climb.

Food & Drink Options at Palm Beach

The on-site food spot is the Shoreline Grill, where you'll find pool-day staples like cheeseburgers, nachos, and frozen drinks.

Prices are in line with what you'd expect from a beach attraction. If you'd rather pack a cooler, the picnic area outside the gates is fair game and re-entry is allowed, so a midday lunch break at the car is easy to fit in.

Beats on the Beach: Saturday Nights at Palm Beach

If you're planning a Saturday visit during the summer, time it around Beats on the Beach.

Every Saturday from June 13 – August 8, 2026 (5:30 to 9:30 PM), Palm Beach trades its daytime splash-park energy for live music and a fireworks finale over Offatts Bayou.. The Shoreline Grill stays open through the evening, and guests can keep drifting the lazy river or lounging in the sand while local bands play. It's family-friendly, all ages, and one of the most distinctive summer-night experiences on Galveston Island.
